Positive Lives focuses on
the human stories of those at the heart of the HIV and AIDS pandemic.
Our hope is that by sharing these stories, we can face and challenge
the myths and prejudices about HIV. Effective prevention and care for
those affected by HIV are essential if this devastating epidemic is
to be contained. The courage and commitment of the individuals pictured
cannot be underestimated, they are prepared to share their stories in
order to save lives. Positive Lives respects the rights of those who
are HIV, no image or text is used without the full understanding and
permission of those involved. This site contains just a few of their
stories. The full exhibition features the work of 17 leading internationally
acclaimed photographers, covering stories from the UK, South Africa,
Tanzania, Zambia, US and the new chapters from India and Bangladesh.
The exhibition has toured since 1993, it has been seen by over 2 million
people world-wide, and has received critical and public acclaim. Positive
Lives is the result of a partnership between Network Photographers,
the Terrence
Higgins Trust
and currently Drik. Positive Lives opens with a new Australian
chapter in Sydney, February 1999.
