Drik Images is a leading South Asian photo agency and visual archive, based around a large, continually expanding collection of more than 400,000 photographs. Its holdings include historically significant documentation of Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War, early-20th-century glass-plate images, architectural photography, and contemporary high-resolution digital work. Founded as the Drik Picture Library, the agency was created to counter stereotypical Western-media portrayals of the Global South. It provides a platform through which photographers and visual storytellers, ranging from experienced, award-winning professionals to emerging practitioners, can share impactful, high-quality imagery. As an archive, it preserves historical and culturally important visual records. And as a stock-image library, it specializes in supplying regularly updated photographs for professional use.
Drik Images offers:
- Licensing of stock photographs for editorial and advertising use
- Sale of fine-art photographic prints
- Photo consultancy
- Digitization services for photographic collections and archives
- Research materials and research support
Its archive is particularly valuable because it centers perspectives from Bangladesh and the wider Global South. By preserving local visual histories and making them available for research, publication, exhibitions, media, and commercial licensing, Drik Images supports a more diverse and representative global visual culture.
