Shahidul Alam awarded with Shilpakala Padak 

Drik and Pathshala’s founder, legendary photographer Shahidul Alam has been awarded with prestigious “Shilapakala Padak”. He has received the award from the hands of Hon’ble President of Bangladesh, Mr. Md. Abdul Hamid on 19 February, 2015 at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Shahidul Alam shared his feelings on this achievement saying “Regardless of how many awards one might get from wherever in the globe, to be appreciated by one’s own community is always special. This is especially so in a medium like photography, which has long been ignored. I receive this award on behalf of the entire Bangladeshi photographic fraternity”.

This year seven senior artistes received the Shilpakala Padak. Mr. Shahidul Alam received the award for his extraordinary contributions in the world of photography. The other recipients were Bazlur Rahman Badol for dance, Lucky Inam for drama, Pandit Amaresh Roy Chowdhury for song, Pandit Madan Gopal Das for music, Syed Abdullah Khalid for fine arts and Ashraful Alam for recitation.

During the occasion, among other distinguished guests, Mr. Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director General of Bangladesh Shilapakala Academy, Mr. Asaduzzaman Noor, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Dr. Ranjit Kumat Biswas, Secretary, Ministry of Cultural Affairs were also present.
