Drik Picture Library inaugurated the Bangladesh Press Photo Exhibition 2026 on 31 July at DrikPath Bhaban in Panthapath, Dhaka, alongside the awards ceremony for the Bangladesh Press Photo Contest (BPPC) 2026.

Launched in June with a call for photojournalistic images taken in 2025, the contest received around 1,600 submissions from 202 photojournalists across Bangladesh. Thirty-two photographs, spanning political, economic, social, cultural, wildlife, nature and documentary themes, were selected for this year’s exhibition.

Initiated by Drik in 2022, BPPC honours the professionalism, skill and courage of Bangladeshi photojournalists. This year marked the contest’s fifth edition.

The five award recipients were Sazid Hossain, Deputy Head of Photography at *Daily Prothom Alo*, who received the ‘Picture of the Year’ 2025 award; Md. Mazharul Islam, photojournalist at *Daily Times of Bangladesh*, winner in the Public Interest Journalism and Politics categories; Md. Mahmud Zaman, Head of Photography at *Daily Times of Bangladesh*, who received an Honourable Mention in those categories; Tanvin Tamim, sports photojournalist at *Daily Sun*, winner in the Arts, Culture and Sports category; and Abdul Goni, photojournalist at *Daily Ittefaq* and currently working at *The Daily Waadaa*, who received an Honourable Mention award.

The ‘Picture of the Year’ winner received an honorarium of Tk 100,000. Category winners received Tk 50,000 each, while Honourable Mention recipients received Tk 10,000 each, along with crests and certificates.

The Indigenous Community Grant 2026 was awarded to Bandarban-based indigenous photographer Mong Hai Shing Marma. He will receive financial support, year-long mentorship and an opportunity to exhibit his work at the Bangladesh Press Photo Exhibition 2027. This year’s exhibition also features work by Jajong Nokrek, recipient of the 2025 Indigenous Community Grant.

The jury comprised Buddhojyoti Chakma, writer and photographer at *Daily Prothom Alo*; Dina Hossain, Assistant Professor of Practice at BRAC University’s School of General Education and documentary filmmaker; Munir Uz Zaman, photojournalist at Agence France-Presse (AFP); and Dr Shahidul Alam, photographer, activist and founder of Drik.

As in previous years, the exhibition was curated by Drik General Manager ASM Rezaur Rahman, who also conducted the ceremony. The 13-day exhibition ran until 12 August 2026.
