Appeal for Gaza

The exhibition “Appeal for Gaza” at Drik Gallery was inaugurated on 18 August 2014 at 6:00 pm.  This exhibition is part of the fundraising event for Gaza victims due to the recent Israeli attack on Palestine. After the event, remaining artworks will continue to be on sale at Drik office, its website and Facebook page.

The inauguration ceremony began with Gono Shongeet singer Mr. Kafil Ahmed’s song; “ Praan e Praan Melaboi Bole Rakhi”. Mr. Shaher Mohammad, Ambassador of Palestine in Bangladesh, Mr. Saiful Islam, CEO Drik, Mr. Shahidul Alam, Managing Director Drik, artist Monirul Islam, students from Palestine living in Bangladesh delivered speech and shared their thoughts. Prominent artists and corporate personalities of the country were present during the inauguration.

Artists including Abdus Shakoor Shah, Abir Abdullah, Bishwajit Goswami, Jamal Ahmed, Jannatul Mawa, Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Mohammad Anisul Hoque, Monirul Islam, Nasir Ali Mamun, Rokeya Sultana, Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, Saiful Huq Omi, Shahid Kabir, Shahidul Alam, Shishir Bhattachariya, Swapan Chowdhury, Taslima Akhter, Tapash Paul, Wakilur Rahman and many more have donated their artwork for this event.

The event also included cultural programmes every evening, i.e. play, poem recitation, musical performance, discussions etc. On 19 August, flautist Shanto Kumar Das, poem reciter Iqbal Khorshed Jafar and Maskure Sattar Kollol, renowned singer Krishnokoli, Tanveer Alam Shwajeeb and on 20 August, stage artist Reetu Satter,poem reciter Rafiqul Islam and Ajharunnobi Rana, flautist Pronob Das, singer Labik Kamal Gourab and Waqeel Ahad expressed solidarity through their performance.

Special contributions were made by Bellissimo(Kazi Food Industries), Bengal Meat, Meena Bazar, Okapia Mobile and Samsung Electronics towards this fund raising.

The event is organised for appealing to all conscious citizens to stand in solidarity. The amount raised from the event was donated for the Palestinian victims in Gaza.

The event “Appeal for Gaza” is a part of Drik’s “No more” public awareness campaign.
