It was in the early nineties that Naeem Mohaiemen, then
working for HBO in New York, became our volunteer
webmaster. Bangladesh didn't have Internet in those days,
but we did have a Net presence. Later, when we set up our
own Internet service, our webmaster flew to Stockholm to
receive the Global Bangemann Winner Award 1999, from the
King of Sweden (http://www.drik.net/Others/Bangemann/partha.html) that
our site had won. Since then, the multimedia unit went on to
design Bangladesh's first webzine, first webportal,
developed the first Bangla font usable on the Net, and still
maintains Bangladesh's human rights portal
www.banglarights.net.
Students of Pathshala worked on assignments for the US
magazine Saudi Aramco World, with Dick Doughty the
editor in Houston providing feedback online.
From revamping the online version of the daily newspaper
"The Independent" to producing the official multimedia
presentation for the prime minister's office in Bangladesh,
and the multimedia presentation for the Bangladesh Festival
in London, Drik Multimedia has stayed at the forefront of
new media technology. While our commercial projects
include working with venture capitalists in setting up the
first webportal of Bangladesh, we also provide subsidy for
students of Pathshala and help develop their websites.
