During Argentina's presidential elections I followed Nestor Kirchner. He finally won after a bizarre process during which his rival – ex President Carlos Menem – decided to withdraw from the race when he faced a crushing defeat at the second round of elections. As usual in political campaigns the appearance in TV shows is a must and in this case the most popular TV show host, Mirta Legrand is with President Kirchner's wife, Cristina.

Politics is theatre and the mass media in its different forms have been replacing the old political rallies where the closeness of candidates and the people at least gave the participants a feeling of common cause, shared hopes, a certain sense of humanity. So it's all about pre-fabricated images and the virtual delivery of coded messages.
