"People think we hijra spend all our time just singing and dancing, embarrassing shopkeepers into giving us money, and constantly worry about our looks. But does anyone stop to think, that given the opportunity, we can get an education too?"

So my older sister decided to take me along to her in-laws' house in Daudkandi in Comilla. She put me into school there, and I was working hard in spite of the comments from class mates and neighbours. I finished my Secondary School Certificate while living there. My sister's husband never said anything against me, but his mother, sister and brother would constantly say hurtful things to me. So after my SSC, I had to leave.

I came to stay in Comilla town. There I became aquainted with Shohid. He let me move into his own home. He was married, and his wife did not approve of my staying at all. But I stayed on, because I felt his house would be safe for me. Shohid listened to my story, and enrolled me into college, for my Higher Secondary Certificate.
