The
two women are in fact one man - a transvestite, and
a woman friend. These people understandably, do not
want to be further abused than they already are by society
and thus shy away from being photographed, and I was
not going to contribute to that in the sense of exploitation.
This was an image they were comfortable with, taken
after I had gained their trust. Using a small and less
imposing digital camera helped. In this instance, we
have the additional layer of the treatment of the image
as every pixel has been actually written or ‘painted
with light’. To me this represents a more photographic
technique than the traditional methods of making photographic
images. I want to question and explore the medium and
see what it can deliver as far as aesthetic explorations. |
