Covering the entire spectrum of productions from social
documentaries to advertising and promotional videos, the
Drik Audio Visual unit caters for a wide range of clients.
Digital technology has altered the dynamics of video
production. Large crews with heavy equipment are no
longer the norm. Professional video work can now be done
using available light, and with mobile editing facilities. This
makes possible greater interaction with the subject and a
more spontaneous response. Low budgets, a quicker
response and the ability to produce on the fly, allows the
Drik team consisting of professionals from the region, to
take on important social issues that would not normally be
taken on by commercial production units.
Short documentaries about the urban poor, slum eviction,
educational films for children, promotional videos for NGOs
and advertising for multinational companies as well as indepth
investigative reports requiring careful research are
all part of the unit's repertoire. The film "The Porcelain
Bluff", produced for NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting
Corporation), was awarded the 3rd prize in the TV Current
Affairs section of Prix Europe, 2004.
Projects by Drik involve videos for use in installations and
in fine art projects. This includes an ongoing project begun
in 1994, on migration which includes a film, "In Search of
the Shade of the Banyan Tree". The project spans over a
dozen Asian and European countries. The work has been
shown in leading galleries and festivals in Asia, Europe and
Latin America.
